So today, the official title was announced for the Batman vs Superman movie that people have been waiting for as a sequel to Man of Steel. It’s going to be called Dawn of Justice, which I can only assume is intended to open the door for a full on Justice League movie down the road. I can only hope, I guess.
Personally, I do not have a preference in the battle of DC vs Marvel. I’m just not heavy enough into comics for that. I love both universes and have enjoyed all the animated series incarnations my whole life. Marvel has been kicking ass lately with their live-action movies, so all I can really say for DoJ is this: man I hope it doesn’t suck.
Given the extensive list of producers, executive producers, and other big names working on this movie, I expect the casting to make or break it. With Ben Affleck cast as Batman and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, I can’t say I’m expecting much. I’m not saying they’re terrible actors, I’m just saying that if they can stretch far enough to fill their roles, I will be officially impressed. I’m sure Ben can play a rich philanthropist, I’m just not sure he can also play a calculating masked vigilante. Convince me, Mr. Affleck, convince me. The same goes for Eisenberg, since I’ve seen even less of his acting chops and am extremely doubtful of his villain capabilities. I’ve read that Jeremy Irons will play Alfred. I love Jeremy Irons. He’s all-around awesome. I don’t know if I like the idea of him over Michael Caine, but I guess if they didn’t keep Christian Bale, they wouldn’t keep Michael Caine. I’m used to seeing a great deal of badassery from Jeremy Irons, and I hope he doesn’t disappoint me even in his role as a butler. As butlers go, Alfred is pretty badass in his own way.
So what do you expect from Batman vs Superman? I expect it to be either a massive failure, or a massive, surprising success.
