I went to Pax South this year, where I discovered the super cool charitable organization, Stack-up.org. They are gamers supporting veterans and deployed troops, and I couldn’t imagine a more perfect charity for a geek like me. They send veterans to major comicons like E3, and send care packages full of games and goodies to deployed troops overseas. They also spread the joy of gaming to families of deployed soldiers and disabled vets recovering in the hospital. At the time, my husband was deployed, so this really struck a chord with me. I finally got around to officially joining the local stack about a month ago, and my first big fundraiser event is this weekend.

I’m a huge WWE fan. My whole family is, actually. My husband and I both grew up through the Monday Night Wars and the Attitude Era, and ours kids have been watching it with us since birth. This month’s pay per view show, WWE Payback, is this coming Sunday (May 1st) and yes; we will be watching it via WWE Network. So the question is: how mad will the WWE Universe be on Monday morning? Let’s look at the card.

• U.S. Champion Kalisto vs. Ryback (Kickoff Match)- First of all, it aggravates me that a championship match, even if it is only the U.S. title, has been relegated to the preshow. I feel like it devalues the belt, but moving on… I  hope expect that Kalisto retains. Luchador style makes for amazing wrestling and it is soooo under-represented in WWE. And who is trying to get behind Ryback anyway? Seriously, Vince? I know he looks like everything they could want in a champion, but the charisma simply isnt there. Get him a manager or get him off the TV.

  

• Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady vs. The Vaudevillains (WWE Tag Team Championship No. 1 Contenders’ Tournament Final)- This match is going to be so much fun! Enzo and Cass are just too hot to lose right now. I’ll be honest. I haaaatte the obnoxious Jersey Shore gimmick, but they execute it so perfectly I think I MIGHT consider being a fan. Bonus prediction: The actual fun part will come from New Day’s unnecessary yet entertaining presence at ringside.
• Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin- ***Show stealer*** This match is going to look great. It’s a shame the storyline is so shallow. I assume Corbin wins since he’s the new kid on his way up the mountain. But gatekeeper Ziggler is going to make him impress us for that street cred.
• Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens- ***Show stealer*** Can there be 2 show stealers? These two have history and a connection that cannot be denied. I cannot WAIT to see this match and I hope they don’t hold anything back. Can I tell you a secret? Sami Zayn has not won me over yet. He’s clearly talented, but my faith is still in Kevin Owens. He’s the heel and I hate him accordingly, but he seems more polished to me. Sami will win anyway, but this rivalry wil continue for a while after Sunday so it’s ok.
• Intercontinental Champion The Miz vs. Cesaro- So Maryse once hosted a con panel that I attended (ACCC 2014) and during the Q&A I asked her if she would ever return to WWE alongside her husband Miz “Miss Elizabeth style”. She said maybe. I’m quite entertained to see that she has now made a return, even though I have never been a fan of hers. Can you tell by my anecdote just how little I care about this match? Cesaro will win the actual match, but Maryse will interfere so Miz retains the belt.
• Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho- Oh that Jericho could be even 5 years younger for this match. It’s going to be wild with a few impressive spots. I’m not entirely sure that Dean Ambrose needs the push from Jericho, but I’m glad he’s getting it all the same. I predict that this is the official start of his climb to WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

• 

  WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte vs. Natalya- Ok so for the record, I’m a bit sad that Charlotte has been reduced to the spawn of Ric Flair. Charlotte is a great in-ring talent in her own right, and it really wasn’t necessary for them to focus on her legacy status in this way… but moving on! I’m #teamNattie all the way and will be until she retires! Natalya is the unsung hero of the women’s division and she needs more championship belt!! Unfortunately, I suspect Charlotte will retain in spectacularly dirty fashion and break my heart.

• Mr. McMahon will announce who controls Raw at WWE Payback- Stipulations, schmipulations! Wrestlemania loss be damned, Shane-O-Mac is still here. And he’ll be controlling Raw from now on because this past month of shows has been some of the best I’ve seen in a long time. Maybe Stephanie will tantrum and quit and go on a real vacation for a couple years. And HHH can get the hell outta the ring and stop taking ring time and attention away from the younger talent who need it.
• WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns vs. AJ Styles- I’m really not sure which way this match will go. They both strike me as incomplete (not bad) champions. I just wish they both had better mic skills. I don’t know what it is about this version of AJ that bugs me but I do kinda wish he’d cut his hair again. I expect Roman retains, but goes full heel in the process. I see him doing better as an IDGAF anti-hero than the face he’s trying to be right now. We’ll see I guess.

I’ve had a few blogs over the last few years. I can be indecisive and multi-faceted. Both of these traits make it hard for me to plan a project as open-ended as a blog. When I first started, I had 3 blogs covering different topics. That was entirely too much to keep up with. I consolidated the 3 down to one that struggled to make cohesive sense. Then I started another blog anonymously with a more adult focus. That was fun for a while, but then I let real life take me away from it. I had a short-lived internet-based home business as well, and before I knew it, a year had gone by without me updating either site. So I took them both down.

Fast forward to today, and I want to blog again. But what do I call it? I want a space where I can talk about anything and everything, because I’m in a constant state of flux. I’m trying to find myself, so it’s not like I have a specific niche that I know I want to live in. What am I?

I’m a geek. First and foremost, I love learning. I am a geek about a great many topics. This is one thing that has never changed in my life. Courtesy dictionary.com:

I was born in 1986. For those of you keeping score at home, that means I will be turning 30 this year. (This June, in fact.) And I have to admit, I’m having just a bit of an identity crisis. I reflect on my hobbies and interests, and I realize I don’t really partake in any of them anymore. If I strip away all the things right now that I’m doing in support of others, it looks like there’s nothing left that is simply Me. I gotta say… I’m not taking it well.

It’s not like I’m Mother Theresa or anything, but I consider myself a relatively selfless person. I have a husband, kids, friends, and relatives that can all count on me for support when and where they need it. I volunteer regularly now that I have stopped working a day job to stay home with my children. Unfortunately, I have lost myself in the process of supporting others. I suppose I need to find satisfaction in offering that support, but I crave achievement, and this isn’t cutting it.

Before you decide that I’m an asshole for not feeling satisfied with keeping 2 kids alive day in and day out, hear me out. I do not consider doing what a responsible adult is supposed to do an “achievement”. I’m not impressed if you tell me you fed your child 3 meals today. That’s part of your job as a parent. I also don’t believe in taking credit for something someone else has done. I support my husband, but when he gets promoted, that’s his accomplishment. I’m immensely proud of him for it; and I hope that somewhere along the way I did give him what he needed to get there; but that was him, not me.

So I need something else to fulfill my craving for achievement. I’ve decided to make time for the things I love again; and hopefully find myself along the way. I’m keeping track of my “adventures” on this blog because I can’t be the only one, can I? Is anyone else a housewife and pretty sure you suck at it? Maybe you’re unhappy, and you’ve counted your blessings over and over and can’t figure out why. If so, you could just be lost like I am. Let’s find ourselves!

Baby #2 is about 50% done loading, and this has brought a very serious issue to my attention. It took us months to choose a name for our first child, and all that was just to name him after his father. Now we have to come up with a name again, and without the default “junior” as an option, this is about to be a long process. I’m thinking that if we start now writing a list of names, we might be able to narrow something down by August. We recently learned that we’re having another boy, so I guess that narrows down the options a bit. Geek confession: I’ve always wanted to name a child after a game character, mythological being, or celestial body… hence, my list:

Hi, everyone! I have missed you, but January has been nothing short of bananas, so I have been unable to write (or breathe). I have plenty to share with you, so hopefully February will lighten up and I can write. First and foremost, I’M PREGNANT AGAIN! Baby Walker #2 is on the way! So the Stay-at-Home Geek will have more mommy stories to share this year. Together we can learn how to balance feeding a bigger family and supporting all of our geeky habits. I now have to figure out some pregnant cosplay ideas for San-Japan and hope this baby doesn’t come so early that I miss out on Texas Comicon since I’m due in late August. Other January happenings that you can look forward to in future posts are…
